Top Tips To Find Your Perfect Summer Dress

It goes without saying, your perfect summer dress is one that makes you feel amazing as well as looking fabulous. With so many dresses on the market, it can sometimes be intimidating and overwhelming to find the right dress for you. That’s why we have put together some top tips to keep in mind when choosing your go-to summer dress

Colour

Bright and vivid colours are trending for spring/summer 22, but if they feel too saturated for you, pastels are also making their mark this season. When picking a summer dress, you want a piece that will see you through several summers so our advice would always be to pick a colour you love, that looks great on you, regardless of the seasons top trending. If you struggle to know what colours suit you, try dressing for your skin tone. The advice is surprisingly simple, cool skin tones tend to work best with cool colours while warm skin tones lean towards warm colours. Tonal colour matching is an easy start to playing with colours and testing what you do and don’t like on yourself.

Fit

If you aren’t sure what fit you would like, look at your current wardrobe and see if there is a certain fit that you prefer. There are no rules in fashion, but if you are struggling with what you want then factors such as height and body shape are good things to consider.

If you struggle with how to dress your body type, please visit our style guides on our blog which cover the core body shapes.

Style

When considering the style of your dress, it’s important not to overlook length. Are you looking for a mini dress or a maxi dress? And don’t forget the frequently overlooked midi length which can be shortened with a strategic belt for maximum wearability. The best way to learn what style you like is to experiment and try things on, you may surprise yourself.

Versatile Fabrics

Though style and fit partake in the versatility of a garment, the biggest influence tends to be the fabric. What are the priorities for your summer dress? For something breathable and lightweight, you can opt for linen. If you want the same qualities but less prone to wrinkles, look for a more weighted cotton piece. We work with many wonderful brands that specialise in organic cotton and linen dresses.

Print

Many of us love playing with print in the summer as they are a simple way to make your outfit pop. Florals are traditional and polka dots are a classic but there are many other prints also on the market. For your perfect dress you should consider what you are comfortable in and most likely to wear.  Some of our partners like Mayamiko and Gung Ho specialise in colourful and unique prints.

Ultimately, your perfect summer dress should be something you love yourself in. You know it is right for you when you want to wear it again and again and love how you feel in it. It may take some time and searching but the reward is everlasting and the best bit is, once you’ve found that perfect fit, style, colour, fabric or print, there’s also the opportunity to dress things up as the seasons change.  This makes it totally worth the effort as your perfect summer dress can then become a year round wardrobe staple.
